TRANSFERS
Return transfers are included in rates. All transfers with regards the Zambezi activities will depart from Kariba or guests can be met at Makuti. Guests staying at different places will be collected and returned on the evening they will be having a briefing prior to their safari.
SAFETY
Safety is of paramount importance and all trips carry first aid kits and all guides are trained in first aid. A detailed safety talk is given before each trip and guests are required to sign indemnity forms.
You can put aside most of the health fears that may be justified in some parts of Africa. Zimbabwe has high standards of medical facilities, and the sunny, dry climate and the unpolluted air suit most people.
Although no inoculations are required, it is wise to make sure that your polio, cholera, typhoid, hepatitis A&B and tetanus injections are up to date. Yellow fever inoculations are necessary if you have come from a country where the disease is endemic.
Malaria tablets must be taken two weeks prior to your visit and should be continued for one month after returning home.
CLIMATE
Our climate is ideal for safaris with dry winters bringing cool mornings and evenings and hot summers, with up to 10 hours of sunshine a day. Deciding when to come depends on what you are looking for.
For game viewing, the dry season (June to November) is recommended as wild life concentrates around watering points. Temperatures begin to climb during September, which good wildlife viewing with spring vegetation.
For scenic beauty, the arrival of the rainy season which lasts from November to March does much to reduce temperatures. It is a time of lush new growth and vegetation, a time to watch new born animals; this is the time when many species drop their young.
GUIDES
All our guides are trained in house. All guides hold canoe guide licenses and learner guides respectively. All Zimbabwean guides carry weapons. All walking safaris are conducted by an armed professional guide in all the mentioned National parks.
MEALS AND DRINKS
Jekwe supplies hearty meals on all trips. Dietary requirements and preferences can be catered for if we are advised in advance. Wine with dinner and cordials with water through out the day are provided. Any extra drinks and hard liquor should be bought by guests prior to canoe trip departures, Guides will assist with this.
EQUIPMENT
All our trips on the lower Zambezi use Canadian style canoes with proper seats and back rests. We provide all the camping equipment on all trips. Guests wishing to use their own gear are most welcome.
LUGGAGE
Luggage is restricted to 10kgs per person on all canoe trips. Excess luggage may be left in a lock up facility with us or where the guests will be staying.
GROUP SIZE
Maximum 9 passengers, however Jekwe Tours & Safaris is able to accommodate larger groups. Please contact us for more details.
