Explore the Wild Zambezi with Jekwe Safaris

Take the most unforgettable canoeing safari. Challenge the wildest parks in Zimbabwe. Stay in Mana Pools, Matusadonha, and Hwange or discover the legends of Kariba and the Victoria Falls. Jekwe Tours & Safaris will arrange it all; including travel arrangements, flights and hotel bookings.

We operate on the lower Zambezi River just below Kariba dam wall to Kanyemba, on the Mozambiquan border. The water flows at approximately 3 miles per hour making paddling on canoeing trips easy. No prior canoeing experience is required. Pre trip safety briefings will be done prior to departure.

Wildlife is prolific as the river traverses some of the most remote areas of the country: Mana Pools National park, Urungwe, Sapi, Chewore and Dande safari areas. We offer the most diverse range of canoeing safaris, varying in distance and duration, as well as game drives and walking safaris that cover every inch of this wild paradise.

Canoeing Safari Options

Safaris are camping safaris where guests sleep in small two person tents that are mozzie net style or under mosquito nets where one can gaze upon the starlit African sky in comfort.

Camping will be on islands on pristine sandy beaches in the middle of the river. The islands we camp on are designated by the Parks and Wildlife Authority.

General Daily Routine

We will be using Canadian style canoes.  There are two guests per canoe and all the equipment, food, and luggage are carried with us. An average of 26 gentle km is covered daily.

The day starts with an early morning tea, coffee and biscuits. After a few hours of canoeing, a stop is made to stretch our legs and enjoy a hearty breakfast, after which the trip continues until lunch.

A siesta follows lunch to pass the midday heat.  Later in the day guests will get back into their canoes for the last stretch of paddling which brings them into camp around sunset.

Guests will help set up camp on the islands in the river and assist the guide with the preparation of dinner.
